What is a “spun” propeller?

By Thomas P.

The Achilles' heel of the propeller is between the propshaft and its inner hub. If we want to give a short definition of a “spun” propeller, we would say that it is the weakness of responsiveness to the rotation of our engine's propshaft which is due to the detachment of the rubber hub of the propeller and to its following wear because of the friction and temperature increase

In other words, while we are heading forward and increase the rpm of the engine, the blade of the propeller does not follow and does not rotate respectively, having as a result the propshaft to spin excessively.
The rubber hub of the propeller is a fortified ring made of durable rubber which is inserted between the propshaft and propeller's inner hub. So, if this rubber hub is detached, the movement of the propshaft cannot be transmitted and the blades, in turn, cannot respond because of water resistance.
