It was all magical in Port Camargue, France, the largest marina in the Mediterranean where the official launch of Yamaha's new XTO 450hp V8, XTO 400hp V8 and 200hp engines took place.
19 new engines, appropriately mounted on the transoms of 12 magnificent yachts gracing the magnificent marina, were lined up waiting to show off their unique features to the journalists who attended from all over Europe.
First of all we tested the 3x450hp - Tempest 44 and the 2x450hp - Lomac 12.5 which were both the largest inflatable boats on the water. Aside from the 25 more horses and the sleek look of the new XTO 450hp V8 hood with the new 3D graphics, what we picked up right after the very first minutes of our test was the much smoother gear-shifting that was very apparent especially when we were using the Helm Master’s EX joystick during docking and of course the noticeably lower sound levels throughout the whole rpm range of the new engines compared to the previous generation of XTO 425hp. These differences alone made our rides more pleasant and enjoyable offering us unique moments.
The new premium XTO V8 series is designed to propel large and heavy offshore vessels while being equipped with leading edge and innovative technologies that elevate our experience at sea.
Retaining the same 5.6 liter displacement as well as a long list of features of the 425hp, the new 450hp offers the most premium power ever available in a Yamaha outboard, showcasing a range of innovative and leading technologies:

Phase Angle Control Charging System
Using Phase Angle Control (PAC) to adjust the intensity of the stator’s magnetic field, the 450hp produces up to 96 net amps per engine in neutral. This is a huge achievement providing the necessary power for today’s demanding devices found on large boats such as gyro stabilizers, air conditioning, sound systems and more.
The PAC charging system, which also prioritizes the starting batteries keeping them charged at all times and ready for action, greatly reduces the need to use a generator on board.

TotalTilt
The TotalTilt™ function with integrated tilt limiter enables faster, easier engine tilting, available also in both 4- and 6-cylinder Yamaha outboards.
- Automatic and full engine tilt up by simply pushing the "UP" button of the tilt/trim switch twice
- Automatic tilt down by pushing the tilt/trim switch 'DN' button twice
- For safety reasons, a warning horn sounds just before and during TotalTilt™ activation
- TotalTilt operation can be stopped at any time by pressing the tilt/trim switch button

Propeller light (optional)
Τhe light mounts directly in the rear side of the outboards rather than requiring independent lights on the transom. These clearly indicate the boat is actively in SetPoint mode to anyone approaching from the stern.

No more jumping between throttles, steering wheels and bow thruster controls – just one simple, intuitive joystick to control engine power and direction. This further enhances and simplifies the helmsman’s experience of boat control and is so useful for larger boats that are increasingly powered by engines like the XTO.
