In April of 2016, Mercury presented the new 5-blade propeller Max5 which is designed for the Sport Master gearcase of Verado 400R. The Max5 is a lab finished propeller which has a 15-inch diameter and is available in a pitch range of 23 to 34 inches, in one-half inch increments.

The huge horsepower and torque of Verado 400R led to the creation of the Max5 propeller, which can provide up to 12% less slippage.

Its availability in half inch increments provides the opportunity to choose the pitch which will allow the engine to reach at its maximum rpm so as to get the maximum performance both at top and at cruising speed.

The Verado 400R may be the reason for which the Max5 was created, but this does not mean that Max5 can not perform wonderfully in other applications as well.

It is certain that the performance of Max5 can be excellent in a proper boat-engine combination, especially when the engine is running at elevated transom heights, where the respective propellers have large slip percentages.

The Max5 propeller can be a very important alternative between 4-blade Bravo I and 5-blade Maximus, improving the disadvantages which the two later propellers present in some specific applications.
