Stingher 32 GT – 2 x 300hp Verado 4.6L V8
Stingher 32GT, the flagship of the GT series of Italboats shipyard, combines many remarkable features that will be particularly appreciated by users.
She is an ideal boat for a family vacation that focuses on comfortable sea living and is built on a seaworthy hull, which will take you comfortably and safely to distant destinations, and is distinguished for its elegant and functional design of her overall equipment.
The bow sundeck is particularly generous and with dimensions of 185cm x 180cm x 96cm, along with its small extension, can accommodate several people comfortably, while hosting a large storage space underneath it.
Further and slightly higher, there is the big locker of the anchor and its windlass, and on the junction of the chambers is formed an elegant hard nose that allows us to exit and enter easily the boat.
Undoubtedly, one of the strongest points of Stingher 32GT is the elegant and very beautifully designed console, which is particularly ergonomic and fits ideally with the overall aesthetic of the boat. It is centrally positioned, leaving large passageways to the right and left of 44 cm wide, and protects very well from wind and spray.
On its side surfaces there are long stainless steel handles that offer ideal holding points both during the cruise and during our move to the bow. The instrument panel is particularly large and can accommodate many large navigation screens, with a very good inclination to immediately inspect them in any driving position.
The large reclining door located on the front of the console and bears a small built -in seat, gives access to the interior, generously forming thus a separate bathroom area with a sink, cabinets and nautical toilet.
The steering wheel is located on the left in a vertical position and the throttle controls centrally and slightly higher, at a suitable height for the hand of the operator. The footrest that is integrated into the console is particularly wide and very functional when driving in a sitting position.
The helmseats are mounted on the anterior surface of the elegant wet-bar, with a split anterior part which forms a comfortable support surface, particularly convenient when leading to a semi-section.
The wet-bar is centrally positioned leaving comfortable passageways to the right and left of 44 cm wide. It has a drawer refrigerator, and can host a sink and a stove, recommending a small outdoor kitchen.
Further behind is the stern lounge of the boat, which with a width of 2.05m and a length of 1.53m can comfortably accommodate many people. Centrally, there is the large wooden table which constitutes a generous dining area, and can be adjusted in height forming a very spacious sundeck. On the back of the stern sofa there is a very functional little door that easily leads to the engines’ area.
The swimming platform is very comfortable and ensures great freedom of movement, allowing us to prepare our sea activities as well as to get in and out of the water easily.
At sea
Our test Rib had two V8 4.6L Verado 300 hp engines on her transom, which with a gear ratio of 1.85: 1 were turning the 4-blade Revolution stainless steel propellers of a 21-inch pitch.
Having 150 liters of fuel on the tank and three crew people, we opened in the waters of Thermaikos Gulf and traveled at 3500 rpm for a long time, maintaining a constant speed of 29 to 30 knots, wanting to get a first taste of the Stingher 32 GT behavior.
There was a light ripple and our boat immediately showed her offshore character. She was travelling very pleasantly, standing clearly out of the water, with her large tubes defining the inclinations in the abrupt maneuvers we operated.
Without those conditions that would allow us to evaluate the quality of the 10m Stingher’ ride, all showed that the damping ratio was at a very good level and the boat responded immediately to every command of the operator, while the acceleration was impressive in relation to the volume of the boat and the engines she brought on her transom.
Revolution propellers held us on plane at just 2000 rpm at a speed of 11.5 knots, got the Rib on plane in 4 seconds and the 32 GT Stingher reached 30 and 40 knots at 5 and 7 seconds respectively. Particularly impressive numbers, demonstrating the power we received and the explosive response to the throttle throughout the whole rpm range.
At 3000 rpm our speed was 23.2 knots with a consumption of 1.8 liters per nautical mile, while at 3500 rpm we were travelling with 29.2 knots burning 1.9 liters per mile. These were the most economical cruise speeds with which we can travel for many hours relaxed and enjoyable, increasing our autonomy to the maximum.
At 4000 rpm, we were running with 34.4 knots consuming 2.1 liters per mile, while at 4500 rpm we got 5 knots more with the fuel consumption increasing to 2.4 liters per nautical mile.
In the midrange, Stingher 32 GT showed excellent behavior with a high degree of flexibility and friendly handling, keeping her tubes out of water despite their large size.
At WOT, we easily recorded a top speed of 54 knots, burning 180 liters per hour, with the engines reaching their maximum rpm limit.
You can see our measurements in the table below:
Taking a closer look to our measurements, we find out that slip values are excellent throughout the whole rpm range, a fact that shows that the height of the engines in combination with the characteristics of the propellers fits very well with the features of Stingher’s hull.
Taking into account that the engines reached their recommended maximum rpm limit, coupled with the wonderful driving feeling we got, we conclude that we had in our hands a very good set-up that does not need further interventions.
It is worth noting that when we tried to get on plane with only the port engine, the boat came out of the hole with ease, while traveling comfortably at 4000 rpm at a speed of 28 knots, burning 1.9 liters per nautical mile.
At wide open throttle, the engine reached 4900 rpm and our final speed 35 knots, with a fuel consumption of 2.45 liters for each nautical mile.
If we want to experiment more around the set-up of the boat, it is worth trying the 4-blade Bravo I LT 21-inch pitch propellers, the features of which show that they will fit very well with the requirements of this hull.
With the above propellers it is very likely to improve the performance even more, and it is certain that the engines will remain close to their maximum rpm limit when the boat carries her normal loads.
