Top Line S 22 – Νew Υamaha 2.8L F200G
Top Line's S 22 is a pure offshore inflatable boat running on an amazing hull, which was created to "flatten" the waves and offer very soft riding in bad weather conditions. It is true that it is very difficult to find another boat that could stand next to it with claims and come close to its performance, which is truly enviable. However, the years pass and unfortunately there was no upgrade of its design features to the requirements of our time, so as not no longer be at the top of its category, tending to disappear from the Greek seas.
S 22 is the result of Top Line's accumulated experience in speed racing, oriented to the harsh demands of the Aegean Sea, aimed at lovers of speed and sailing quality.
Standing on plane at low speeds, amazing damping, low consumption and perfectly straight ride attitude are some of its features that can enchant even the most experienced user.
The all-new 4-cylinder 200hp Yamaha engine was hanging on the boat’s transom, which with a 1.86:1 gear ratio was turning a 5-blade stainless steel High Five 14'' x 19'' propeller. It is worth noting that the new engine is 42 kg lighter than its predecessor, while it weighs almost the same as Yamaha's two-stroke HPDI 200hp outboard, thus ensuring the proper balance that is very important especially in fast boats while improving their performance.
The first thing that was immediately noticeable during our test was that the new 200hp engine runs very smoothly for an inline 4-cylinder, and was particularly quiet at idle.
When we recorded our measurements we were a crew of 3, with 200 liters of fuel and all the equipment on board.
S 22 was standing on plane at 2400 rpm maintaining a speed of 11 knots, got on plane in 4 seconds and accelerated to 30 knots in 11 seconds. Very good numbers, if we consider that we had placed the engine too high.
Up to 4000 rpm, the engine was burning less than 1 liter for every nautical mile, showing us that it can travel very economically.
At 3000 rpm we were traveling at 21 knots, burning 0.9 liters per mile, recording the most economical cruising speed where we achieve the longest range, which translates to 222 nautical miles when we have 200 liters of fuel in our tank.
At 3500 rpm we were running at 27 knots consuming 0.96 liters per mile, while at 4000 rpm we were cruising at 32 knots with exactly the same fuel consumption.
At 4500 rpm, our speed reached 36.5 knots with a consumption of 1.1 liters per mile, while at 5000 rpm we were running at 40.8 knots burning 1.37 liters per nautical mile.
At full throttle, S 22 reached a top speed of 47.7 knots and the engine at Yamaha's recommended maximum of 6000 rpm.
You can see our measurements with the 27'' propellers in the following
A closer look at the table above will reveal that we had an ideal set-up in our hands from every point of view, while the ride quality was also excellent.
It is noteworthy that the slip values we recorded were particularly low even at low rpm, which means that we were getting almost the maximum performance from our propeller at the specific installation height.
Yamaha's new 200hp engine is sure to suit boats that can handle its horsepower, it’s light and very fast, while the integrated electro-hydraulic or hydraulic steering ensures a cleaner and tidier environment around the boat transom.
