MAR.CO E-Motion 36 Cabin - 2 x 450R Verados

By Thomas P.

A really great combination that captivated us with its performance!
E-motion 36 Cabin is the brand new and largest model of the homonymous series of Mar.co’s boatyard that was first presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019.

And of course when it comes to performance we do not mean the top speed but the wonderful numbers we recorded at cruising speeds, the fuel consumption at low and medium rpm as well as the incredibly low slip values.

After all, the pursuit of maximum speed has never been one of the priorities of Mar.co's boatyard, which focuses primarily on the ergonomics, functionality and comfort of the occupants both while travelling as well as when living on board.

«In general, E-36 remains true to the pillars of MAR.CO’s DNA: it is a leisure boat thought for families. Every little detail is designed to be functional and to enhance comfort aboard.
In terms of overall quality, we are at the highest level: every fiberglass component (from the hull to any storage top) is completely produced with Infusion System. The entire structure is incredibly strong and durable.

»We must admit that as all our other models, E-36 is conceived for an expert and demanding client, that can truly appreciate all these visible and invisible details.
On top of these basic principles, we introduced some innovations that make E-36 not only a larger E-MOTION, but a true evolution of the line. I will make you an example that also epitomizes well our attitude towards innovation. In order to be compliant to new regulation, we had to add some openings in our dinette area (stern u-shaped seats): instead to produce the usual already-seen tuna-doors, we created these innovative foldable cushions that work both as backrest (when closed) and as step or seat (when open).

»Compared to our E-MOTION 32 and 29, it is much more spacious, especially in terms of width. You can notice it in particular in the dinette area and in the cabin. Consider that we managed to design a pretty large bathroom with separate shower cabin, which in a 36 feet Rib is something extraordinary. I can say that we are all hugely satisfied and extremely proud of the work we have done together with our designers.
It is a beautiful RIB»
…said Mauro Piero Zamuner, the owner of Mar.co boatyard.

On deck

E-Motion 36 offers a high standard of living at sea ensuring your overnights on board with luxury and comfort, as well as generous sunbathing and dining areas combined with great storage spaces.

The huge sun deck of the bow is the main area of relaxation and sunbathing with dimensions of 2.28m x 2.16m x 0.65m. Underneath the front cushion is the hatch that gives access to the windlass and the anchor chain, while directly behind there is the necessary storage space for placing lifejackets, bow lines or fenders.

To the port and starboard of the cabin there are comfortable passageways with 25cm of width leading to the bow sun deck, while on its front side large pillows have been fitted constituting a substantial extension of the sunbed.

The helm station is located on the starboard side of the console and offers plenty of space to fit any type and size of electronic devices. The switches as well as all of its equipment are characterized by top quality materials with obvious attention given to even the last detail.
The high windscreen surrounds the entire helm and offers high protection from the wind and spray, while we particularly liked the design of the stainless steel that replaced the roll bar, having the appropriate surface for mounting the necessary lights and antennas.

The strongest point of E-Motion 36 is undoubtedly its large cabin, which with the comforts and luxury it offers will satisfy even the most demanding ladies.
A large staircase leads to the interior of the cabin, whose headroom is 1.78 meters high, 1.09m long and 72cm wide.

On the port there is the general electrical panel, which reflects the high level and excellent work of the boatyard, and two large and very useful cabinets where we can place all of our clothing.
To the starboard the door is leading to the independent bathroom area which in turn is separated from the rest space by a glass door, thus providing greater comfort and restriction of wet surfaces during our shower. It is certainly a place that will be highly appreciated by the owners.

The cabin’s berth has 1.85m of length, 1.65m of maximum width and 1.25m of width at the head area. These dimensions are certainly satisfactory and can comfortably sleep two adults. Underneath the berth there is a large storage compartment, while to the right and left of it there are very useful sockets for small items.

The helm seats are bucket and independent, mounted on the front side of the wet bar. Their front section is reclining and enables us to drive upright when conditions require so.
Behind the helm seats there is the elegant outdoor kitchen which leaves wide passageways to its port and starboard for the comfortable movement of the passengers.
It is equipped with a sink and a gas stove, while a large stainless steel refrigerator is hosted on its back side.

On the aft deck there is a spacious lounge, in the center of which a large table measuring 1.20m x 1.16m is located. The table goes up and down with an electro-hydraulic mechanism and enables us to create a huge sunbed when we want it, while in its lower position it nestles on the deck setting us free from the obligation of its transportation and storage.

What's new in E-Motion 36 is the cleverly designed transom doors that open backwards to form small seats, while leaving large passageways for easy access to the swimming platform. So we don't have to jump over the backrest of the sofa when moving fore and aft. It is also worth noting the very useful storage space created between the transom doors, where we can place stern lines, fenders or even our stern anchor.

At sea

E-Motion 36 fitted with twin 450Rs, which were turning the ECO Enertia 16΄΄ x 19΄΄ 3-blade stainless steel propellers through a 1.60: 1 gear ratio, constitute an ideal combination characterized for its outstanding performance in terms of ride quality as well as in terms of acceleration, cruising speeds and fuel consumption.
However, what really impressed us most were the incredibly low slip values we recorded, which in themselves are the mirror of the performance of every boat-engines combination.

The new supercharged 450Rs, weighing just 42kg more than the naturally aspirated 300hp V8 Verado engines where they come from and being more over 100kg lighter than their nearest competitor, are mainly characterized by the best power-to-weight ratio in the outboards industry. This simply means that they are capable of giving even better acceleration, especially on relatively lightweight boats, and of course they can produce incredible amount of torque through a compact package.

With 700 liters of fuel and 4 people on board, E-Motion 36 jumped onto plane in 4.2 seconds almost without raising its bow, while reaching 30 knots in just 6.25 seconds.
It was capable of standing on plane at 2300 rpm with 13 knots, which means that it can travel at low speeds when the bad weather conditions demand it.

At 3000 rpm we were traveling with 27 knots burning 2.7 liters per nautical mile. This was also the most economical cruising speed we recorded, which is worth noting because it is an excellent performance that allows us to cover long distances relatively quickly, with the engines operating perfectly smooth.
At 3500 rpm our speed reached 32 knots while our fuel consumption remained almost the same, climbing just 0.1 liters per mile. Therefore, when we want to increase our speed from 27 to 32 knots it will not cost us much fuel.

At 4000 rpm we ran at 37 knots burning 3.3 liters per mile, while at 4500 rpm we reached 41 knots with a fuel consumption of 4.1 liters per mile.

At WOT, the engines reached 6000 rpm and E-Motion 36 54.5 knots of top speed.

Our detailed measurements are in the table below:

It is really worth noting the slip percentages we recorded at low rpm ranging lower than 10%, a number that I don't remember having seen before.
This is due, of course, to the abundant torque of the 450R engines at low rpm, which also the ECO Enertia propellers make the most out of, delivering great thrust and excellent stern lift. This precisely shows a perfect combination that manages to give us the least possible wet surface of the hull leading to an extremely rare 7.8% slip percentage, in just at 3000 rpm.

It is really ideal to be able to get almost the maximum efficiency of our propellers at low rpm and be capable to travel with such a limited slip percentage. This means that in this rpm area which concerns the vast majority of our use, we have the ability to travel at the higher possible cruising speeds, limiting the fuel consumption and, of course, achieving excellent handling of our Rib.

If we would like to improve further the above set-up, it's worth switching to ECO Enertia shorter pitch propellers that will allow the engines to run closer to their redline. We might lose about two knots of top speed, but we will gain stronger acceleration and more immediate throttle response while we will still be able to load our boat even more without the risk of falling below the middle of the engines manufacturer’s recommended rpm operating range at WOT.
