Trim Tabs should be mounted in the proper negative angle

By Thomas P.

As we have seen in a previous article, the trailing edge of the trim tabs should be slightly higher than their front edge when they are fully retracted. This slight upward inclination is called negative angle and is of great importance.

In the following video we can watch what happens when the trim tabs are placed in the appropriate negative angle and what happens when they are placed parallel to the bottom of the hull.

When the trim tabs are mounted in the proper negative angle we see (from 0:07s to 0:15s) that they are not involved into the boat’s ride at all when they are trimmed fully up. On the other hand, when they are positioned parallel to the hull, they are involved into the ride even when they are trimmed at their highest position (from 0:16s to 0:30s).
